The Solicitors firm of Pike & Chapman

The Solicitors firm of Pike & Chapman has the distinction of being one of the oldest firms in Galashiels. It can trace its origins back to Regency times and has operated out of premises in Bank Street during the entirety of its existence. The firm is currently headed up by Partner, William Windram. William was brought up and educated in the town where his father ran a small business. After being educated at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow respectively he returned to Galashiels to train as a Solicitor and begin his legal career. Although he has a wide experience in all aspects of Chamber practice William now concentrates on making Wills, winding up estates and advising on taxation and succession planning. He also undertakes some residential and commercial conveyancing.

William is involved with a number of local groups and organisation and serves on the Board or acts as a legal advisor to a number of local charitable organisations, Trusts and voluntary groups.

In their Bank Street offices William is ably assisted by Associate Hannah French who is a qualified Solicitor and Alan Smith who worked for many years with HM Revenue & Customs as a VAT Inspector and who is now qualified as a Scottish Law Accountant. Trainee Solicitor, Paul Halliday assists with residential conveyancing. All of them together with their support staff, many of whom have been with the firm for a considerable period, are happy to work with all their clients in achieving practical and value for money solutions to legal problems.

The Solicitors firm of Douglas Gilmour & Son

The Solicitors firm of Douglas Gilmour & Son has a long history in Selkirk having been founded by the late Douglas Gilmour who arrived in Selkirk to take on the role of Burgh Prosecutor. He was subsequently joined in practice by his son Brian who is well remembered in Selkirk for his contribution to town life. The office is now run by Partner, Stephanie Robertson who completed her Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh and qualified on 30th June 2010. The bulk of the residential conveyancing work at the firm is handled by Stephanie, who deals with all aspects of conveyancing; including remortgaging, shared ownership and part-exchange transactions as well as Leases and some commercial conveyancing.

She is assisted by Jenny Linehan, who also has experience both in Chamber Practice and in the Sheriff Court where for a while she was employed by the Procurator Fiscal’s Department. Stephanie and Jenny are also supported by a loyal team of experienced clerical and secretarial staff and welcome the opportunity of offering help and advice to all clients both new and existing.
